Call of Duty 4 Patch 1.7

Hey, I recently had to get my Windows, Mother Board, and drivers/graphics card reinstalled, some virus had eaten into my PC. Anyway, so I reinstalled Call of Duty 4, and so here is the question:The latest patch is 1.7, can I just download 1.7? Or do I need 1.4 or other patches first then upgrade it to 1.7? Can someone guide me to what patches I can skip and what patches I need to download?Thanks in advance! Call of Duty 4 Patch 1.7

hay i downloaded 1.6 and 1.7 and i dont no if it worked cause when i go onto multiplayer no servers come up is that what patches are for ?:
|You're having another issue then dumbummy; the patches are meant to keep everyone updated. Only people that have the 1.7 patch can only play with other people with the 1.7 patch.

I really question what they were thinking with the patch thing. I think the majority of players are still 1.0. I wish they could at least force you to update before you play the game. I know it sounds a little harsh but I hate it that the players are spread out through all the patch's
i got patch 1.4 and 1.6 and 1.7 now when i play i notice at the edge of the screen there is 1.4.525 the last 3 numbers where random but tdoes that mean im on 1.4 but still no servers come up and i love the game and i cant play online which patch is the best?
