FPS with classes/unlocks?

A friend and I are looking for a new multiplayer FPS, with classes (medic, engineer, etc.), or unlocks to new weapons as you progress, like Call of Duty.Basically a way to keep the game from getting too boring/monotonous. We were looking at Left 4 Dead as being a possibility, but how is that game in terms of 'unlocking' stuff? Is there any at all, or do you just find new weapons while you're playing to use? Also, if you've played Frontlines: Fuel of War, how is it? Thanks in advance.ETA: Have already played Battlefield.^ I added this in earlier after the first two Battlefield replies, but keep getting them, lol. Thanks for the BF suggestions, but we've already played them out! :)FPS with classes/unlocks?
L4D has achievments to unlock so I dont think it has any weapon uunlocks. If you want lots of classes, ranks, and unlocks try Battlefield 2.FPS with classes/unlocks?
BF2142 is great.
Team Fortress 2
BF2142 would be my recommendation, along with Team Fortress 2 (Surprised that Antaeus didn't say this, and in fact his avatar is what made me think of it xD) Team Fortress 2 doesn't have unlockable weapons for every class YET.

But Valve are working on that. It's an amazing game though.

Battlefield 2 and Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 is better than Battlefield 2 or any other team-based multiplayer shooter by far. Not only is teamwork absolutely crucial when it comes to winning, but it's easy to pick up and play and the game is being updated all the time with new unlocks, maps, game modes, balancing fixes, etc.

Do you pay monthly for TF2?And towards anyone: Does the cartoonyness quality bother anyone?
Do you pay monthly for TF2?And towards anyone: Does the cartoonyness quality bother anyone?
Its a one time purchase no monthly fee, and as for cartoon nature, it makes the game much more enjoyable to watch. People look great when they blow up.
I'm about 95% sure hat L4D will get unlocks, weapons, skins maybe in the not to distant future. TF2 you don't pay a cent after you buy the game, cartoony style makes the game fun. I personally found the unlock system for TF2 pretty poor, they give you a few really dumb achievements that you really won't get without farming for them. minutes after achievements were out players just hopped on achievement servers to get them unlocked. Games like BF2/BF2142 seem to be more progress based, rather than shoot 4 guys in the kneecap upside down while wearing a sentry gun on your head with 5 people left on 26% health and 10 spectators each with the name Frank. Call of Duty World at War and COD 4 Have you played both? Far Cry 2 has level and unlock system too (Diamonds) but I don't think it's doing that well online.
BF2 or CoD4 are your only real options.

I wouldn't suggest TF2. The unlocks are limited to a few classes at the moment. There's no sign of them finishing the other classes anytime soon. It's a great game, but if you want unlocks... look elsewhere.

No unlocks whatsoever in L4D, not that style of game.It is still a damn good game though and I highly recommend it.
