Who thinks Vista should be able to play XP games and games before that?

It is so annoying how you can't do that on VistaWho thinks Vista should be able to play XP games and games before that?
eh? I have 100s of games that work fine on Vista, going all the way back to games like Wolfenstein/Doom.Who thinks Vista should be able to play XP games and games before that?
...Wait..What??:?-OHH!!! I get it, another Vista Hate Thread? THIS IS NEW AND REALLY EXCITING!!!:o
It is so annoying how you can't do that on Vista
I said no.....why? Because the exact same thing happend when we went from 16bit to 32bit. I think virtualization is great but other than that option from my understanding a bit change is a nightmare when going backwards. but having said that, most games work just fine
What are you talking about? Vista can do that already...
The problem is usually hardware and not software, multi-core processors being an example.

So you change the affinitiy to 1 core.
It already can...
If you are talking about vista 64bit being unable to play 16 bit, then you must be burned at the stake:D ok maybe not. Anyway, xp64 and vista 64 both removed old 16bit legacy code, because it's unstable and hardly useful. There is no point to keep 16bit code in a 64bit world, just run vmware to play those old games. Vista 32, will play those 16bit games fine.
...Wait..What??:?-OHH!!! I get it, another Vista Hate Thread? THIS IS NEW AND REALLY EXCITING!!!:o
I don't hate vista I like it actually. I just don't like how you can't play games that run on Win95, Win97, and some XP games, like worms armageddon.
It is so annoying how you can't do that on Vista
I have Monkey Island 1-4, Doom 1-3, all half life series, starcraft, diablo war chest, and many more all installed.Ask someone what google is and figure out how to play games.

Worms Armageddon what? it works just fine, even doom or doom 2 o_0, quake 1 and a lot of old games, they worked just fine, the only problem I had was with MK.
i play a tons of games on vista and no problems

Some games require using 1 core like SS2.PS: didn't mean to be harsh, but research before you complain, you can get about anything to work on vista. And if worms absolutly won't work, oh well.
i had a bit of a crazy idea on this. sooner or later MS are going to have to axe the BC code. its one of the big reasons why windows is getting so bloated.

so why dont they plonk in an easy to use virtual machine app into windows 7 or 8 and allow ppl to install older OSs to run along side the newe ones if they want. so if an old dos game isnt working in 7 (like elder scrolls 2....notoriously difficult to get running on a modern OS from what i hear. not even dox box does the job).

just install MS-DOS into a virtual machine on windows 7. u could also control what MS-DOS sees. so it wont see a 8 core corei7 CPU with 8GB of ram and 2 gts 280s in sli....itll see an old 486 going at about 200MHz with 32MB of ram and soem integrated graphics thingy (or whatever MS dos will support) even allow the user to change the hardware the VM will let MS-DOS to see just in case.

theres alot of advantages to this such as: if the VM OS goes down..it wont take ure main OS or ure PC with it. itll maintain full BC by using the native OS the games were meant to run on.

itll make the transition from one os to the other alot easier. ppl will feel alot more comfortable dipping their toes in the water.

MS can finally start cutting the crap out of their latest OS without worrying about older apps.

the only downsides i can think of are

system requirements will go up. ull need enough juice to run the main OS, the VM OS and the game (mainly u need lots and lots of ram).

ull need to boot a second OS after booting the first one.

i dont know if thats dooable (has anyone tried running a game on a virtual machine?) but if it is then i think it could solve alot fo problems.

Not even Xp can play worms armegedon. It sucks for windows. Might as well pirate it.
Maybe he has the 64bit version and is trying to play 16bit games.
why would anyone say no to that....

ironically that is basically the plan for windows 7. although from my understanding it will be transparent to the user.

In other words if the game can not work natively becuase of old drivers then the OS needs it would require become virtualized.

Which is why they have said ''zero backward compatiablity but everything will work'' They plan to have less native backward compatible drivers and just vm those
